“It was unfortunate. That was essentially an exchange with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “There was a large group of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was brimming with excitement for the Dallas team.”
He further emphasized that the signal was completely unintentional, occurring amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I just put up the incorrect finger,” he noted. “The action was inadvertently performed. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. But it got resolved pretty quick.”

This is not the first time an league proprietor has been penalized for inappropriate behavior. Previous cases include:
- Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at spectators in January 2024.
